EDBL Family

Having spent many years in the Bahamas, Joy, Mama Joy, and Hugh “Papa Hughie” Ganter moved to Lighthouse Point, Florida, with a clear vision of the restaurant they wanted; combine the freshest seafood with delicious, mouth-watering, island-inspired recipes and serve in a casual, friendly atmosphere. That was 1976.

Today Joy and Papa’s ZAGAT-rated restaurant and marketplace, Papa Hughie’s Seafood World, has been dubbed Papa’s Raw Bar and still offers all the same fresh seafood and island-inspired ingredients at their restaurant and fresh market.

In the spring of 2014, The Ganter’s son Troy and his beautiful wife Cassie opened Papa’s Raw Bar next door to Papa’s Fresh Market. Troy believed there was a demand for a local hang out to Eat Drink And Be Local®.

He envisioned a hole in the wall that made you feel like you were vacationing on the islands, dining at your favorite local joint surrounded by “Good Vibes Only” and the people you love most.

During the pandemic, we transformed the bowels of Seafood World into “The Barrel Room”, your new private venue featuring Elevated Cocktails, a Mother Shucking Oyster & Charcuterie Bar providing a one-of-a-kind intimate dining experience.

Eat Drink And Be Local® is more than just a trademark, it’s our new Family Restaurant Group, EDBL Family Brands. EDBL Family Brands is a restaurant group with culinary creativity and fun, out-of-the-box concepts.

Our roots run deep in the community, and we are passionate about creating synergy in our industry. Our culture is built on service, relationships and helping our communities prosper.
